The Serra de Montsant
It’s not the height (only 1.163 meters) that makes Serra de Montsant so impressive – rather its steep walls and its dominance of the surrounding landscape. It’s hard to ignore the great contrast between the Serra de Montsant and the neighbouring green hills. The range was created by volcanic activity and further moulded by millenniums and millenniums of erosion. This vast area is declared National nature reserve and is host to a rich variety of flora and fauna. Serra de Montsant adds character to Priorat and is also a benefactor of its uniquely mild microclimate.
Pyrenean Ibex (Capra pyrenaica). Other characteristic Montsant wildlife: Griffon vulture, Bonelli’s eagle, roedeer, wildboar and badger.
